- Looking for something to do on a Friday night this winter?
- Looking for a way to have some fun with friends or family?
- Looking for a way to dip your toe in the water (although the water is frozen) to get back into curling?
Friday Fun Social Curling is just what you've been looking for!
Meet people and play with friends
Every Friday night throughout the curling season, curlers will gather at the Club for some fun, "non-traditional" curling along with some "après-curl" socializing in the lounge.
We've divided the curling season into three mini-seasons. Each mini-season consists of a free curling night and then 6 weeks of fun curling. There will be music, laughs, instruction if you need it and some "non-traditional" curling games to keep things interesting.
Who is this for:
- anyone with a bit of past curling experience who'd like to get back into curling without the commitment of a full membership.
- people who are looking for an evening of fun once a week with friends.
- people who'd like to try out the sport and the Club to see what it's all about.
Curling is FUN
Frequently Asked Questions
Isn't the ice slippery?
Suprisingly - no. Unlike smooth skating ice, curling ice has a fine "pebble" that gives it a bit of grip. The sweepers can actually trot alongside the rock while they are sweeping.
I hate winter. Won't I get cold?
First of all, winter goes much quicker when you're a curler. It is below freezing in the arena - after all we are on ice. But there's no wind and the temperature of the air is maintained at constant slightly below freezing level. There are many curlers in the club who actually curl in short-sleeved T-shirts once they get warm from sweeping.
Do I need to buy a lot of equipment?
The Club supplies equipment for these sessions (brushes, sticks and sliders). Helmets are optional but suggested (hockey or bike helmet). You need to carry in a clean pair of INDOOR ONLY running shoes or bring your curling shoes if you have them.
I've got bad knees/hips. There's no way I can squat down like I see them do on TV.
If you haven't tried it yet we will teach you how to use a “stick” for delivering the rock. The introduction of the “stick” has opened up curling to almost everyone. Now there is no need to squat down to deliver the rock. When using the stick, the curler has rubber grippers on both shoes. This greatly increases the curler's stability on the ice.
