Once completed you’ll be ready to join one or more of our leagues with a special rate for your membership. How cool is that! All levels of ability are welcomed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Isn't the ice slippery?
Suprisingly - no. Unlike smooth skating ice, curling ice has a fine "pebble" that gives it a bit of grip. The sweepers can actually run alongside the rock while they are sweeping.
I hate winter. Won't I get cold?
First of all, winter goes much quicker when you're a curler. It is below freezing in the arena - after all we are on ice. But there's no wind and the temperature of the air is maintained at constant slightly below freezing level. There are many curlers in the club who actually curl in short-sleeved T-shirts once they get warm from sweeping.
Do I need to buy a lot of equipment before I know I will even like the sport?
The Club supplies equipment for these sessions (brushes and sliders). Helmets are optional but suggested (hockey or bike helmet). You need to carry in a clean pair of INDOOR ONLY running shoes.
I've got bad knees/hips. There's no way I can squat down like I see them do on TV.
We will teach you how to use a “stick” for delivering the rock. The introduction of the “stick” has opened up curling to almost everyone. Now there is no need to squat down to deliver the rock. When using the stick, the curler has rubber grippers on both shoes. This greatly increases the curlers stability on the ice.
Next session - Saturdays from Noon to 2 pm, Fall 2023 TBA
